I Can See Clearly Now
Text: John 9:1–12
Speaker: Dr. Richard Price | Schrader Lane Church of Christ | September 14, 2025
Christ restores our spiritual sight through obedient faith.
Key Takeaways
- Without Christ, we are all spiritually blind. He is the Light of the World (John 9:5).
- Suffering isn’t always punishment—it can be a stage for God's glory (John 9:2–3; Job 1:8–12).
- Miracles highlight God's power, not methods; obedience is the channel for blessing (John 9:6–7).
- Our testimonies of transformation (“I was blind, but now I see”) are powerful witnesses to Christ (John 9:25).
- Trials shape us into mature believers for God’s glory, not just emotional highs (James 1:2–4; Matthew 5:16).
- We are called to let our light shine—individually and together (John 8:12; 2 Corinthians 4:6).
1. Christ the Light: Healing Spiritual Blindness
The man born blind (John 9:1) reflects humanity’s spiritual state—darkness without Christ. Jesus, “the Light of the World” (John 9:5), restores sight both physically and spiritually. Without Him, true vision is impossible (Ephesians 4:18; Romans 3:23).
2. Causality: Not Punishment, But Purpose
Jesus corrects the disciples’ assumptions: the man’s blindness was not due to sin, but so God’s power might be seen (John 9:2–3). Suffering can serve a divine purpose (Job 1:8–12; Romans 8:20–21). God permits trials to showcase His glory and our growth.
3. Obedience: The True Power in Healing
Jesus used mud, but the miracle wasn’t in the substance—it was in the obedience. The man obeyed Jesus’ command to wash in the Pool of Siloam and was healed (John 9:6–7). Our blessings flow not from rituals, but from our trusting response to God’s Word.
4. Testimony: From Blindness to Bold Witness
The healed man’s simple testimony—“I was blind, but now I see”—confounded skeptics (John 9:8–11, 25). When God transforms us, our lives become undeniable evidence of His grace. We don’t glorify our past or ourselves, but what Christ has done in us.
5. Light in Community: Shine Together
We each carry a light placed in us by Christ (Acts 2:38). But together, our lights pierce darkness more powerfully. When believers live out their calling in unity, the world sees God’s glory (2 Corinthians 4:6; Matthew 5:16).
6. Responding to the Gospel
Christ calls us to respond through:
- Hearing (Romans 10:17)
- Believing (Hebrews 11:6)
- Repenting (Acts 2:38)
- Confessing (Acts 8:37)
- Being Baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38)
In obedience, we are added by Christ—not through an application—but through His blood to His church.
7. Application & Reflection
- Personal: Where are you still spiritually blind?
- Corporate: Trust what God is doing, not just what you see.
- Practical: Put on spiritual lenses—live in the light.
Don’t walk with your head down. Let your light shine—someone is watching and needs to see clearly now.
“Christ has been at the restoration visit—and He’s still restoring today.”
