The Devil’s Nature and Origin
- The devil is a created being, formerly among the heavenly hosts (Colossians 1:16, Nehemiah 9:6).
- Only God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are eternal; all others, including the devil, were created.
- The devil and his angels were expelled from heaven due to rebellion.
Characteristics and Limitations
- Murderer, liar, deceiver, tempter, attacker, disguiser, prideful, and powerful within God’s limits.
- Not omnipotent or equal to God; abilities are subject to divine boundaries.
- Powers may be limited compared to when he was in heaven.
Evil, Free Will, and Moral Agency
- God did not create evil; He created beings with free moral agency.
- Evil arises from the misuse of free will, as shown in both angels and humans.
- The possibility of evil is inherent wherever free moral agency exists.
The Devil as a Spirit
- The devil is a spiritual being, influencing the physical realm but not flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12).
- Demons are generally understood to be the angels who followed the devil in rebellion.
