The Devil's Objectives and Tactics
A Study on Understanding and Resisting the Enemy's Schemes
Overview of the Study
This session continued the group's study on the devil and his works, focusing on scriptural insights into his objectives, tactics, and impact according to Christian doctrine. The class reviewed key passages with the goal of helping believers understand and avoid the devil's schemes, following Paul's advice in 2 Corinthians 2:11 and Ephesians 6:12.
Core Principle: The Devil's Primary Goal
He aims to lead people away from God, breed resentment, and disrupt peace. He attempts to destroy marriages, neglect children, split churches, and trap believers with materialism, pride, and sin. Ultimately, he wants believers to keep their Bibles closed and to block God-given opportunities.
A Scriptural Review of the Devil's Objectives
- He seeks to deceive believers and nonbelievers. (Acts 5:3; 2 Corinthians 11:3)
- He aims to create stumbling blocks for the weak in faith. (1 Corinthians 8:9)
- He promotes dual allegiance and hypocrisy. (1 Corinthians 10:20-21)
- His goal is to keep people ignorant of his schemes. (2 Corinthians 2:11)
- He blinds the minds of nonbelievers to the truth. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
- He causes strife and hinders Christian efforts. (1 Thessalonians 2:18)
- He ensnares believers through a bad reputation. (1 Timothy 3:7)
- He encourages departure from the faith via false doctrine. (1 Timothy 4:1)
- He fosters quarrels, bitterness, envy, and self-seeking. (2 Timothy 2:24-26; James 3:14-15)
Key Questions Addressed
The study explored several foundational questions about the devil, confirming that he is a created spirit being, limited by God, who can take different forms (like a serpent or an angel of light) and is used by God for purposes of testing and judgment.
